When Giants Become Human (Poem)
The first gods we lose are our parents
When I was a baby, my parents felt like giants.
When I was a child, they became a map.
When I was a teenager, I began to notice their cracks.
When I became an adult, I finally recognized their humanity.
Maybe the final illusion of childhood is believing our parents were meant to make the world fit us, when in reality, no upbringing can fully prepare a person for something as vast and unpredictable as existence. Our parents were simply two people introducing us to the world through the limits of their own understanding, and perhaps that is all any generation has ever done, as the cycle continues…

The poem itself is very strong even without the prose beneath, as a poet, this is a pretty biased opinion but I feel like the poem could stand by itself!
Dang this poem really captured growing up so well!! I agree with this, I’ve actaully been thinking about that a lot lately, and noticed the older you grow, the more your perspective on your parents changes. u have a gift! :)
